They've got the technology it's simply not infallible.

It also requires a battery to work which is tough to design into a handgun .... added weight, larger grip dimensions and reliability issues not withstanding.

Any time to try to build smart lock technology into something that unlocks something inherently mechanical which is also under incredible stress when it use .... it's just about impossible to pull off.

Then you get into hacking issues, pulse blocking issues (like small scale EMPs disrupting the chip's functionality) and sand, dirt, carbon fouling issues as well as cleaning issues where oiling and soaking with solvents would immediately render the firearm useless .... it's just not gonna happen any time soon.
