Correct

I wonder if this might open up an avenue for elite high school athletes to consider these academies as an option though?

I can't imagine this being the case for a few reasons.

1)You still have to fully qualify academically.

2)You still are expected to incur a service obligation even if deferred

3)Let's face it, not even all 5 star players make the pros...…..which means that signing up for a Service Academy if you have no desire to serve whatsoever would probably be pretty unwise.
