When they are up by more than a score against decent teams who need to score to stay in the game (which is the situation that LSU is in basically all the time), teams score against them.
They got outscored 13-6 by A&M and 14-7 by Auburn in the second half (7-3 and 14-0 in the 4th Q) when those teams were down and needed to score. Notre Dame scored last to cut that game to one possession.
South Carolina trailed twice in that game and scored within 2 possessions both times.
