Buddy of mine owns Mid City Pizza and Banks Street Bar. Don't think those would be bad places to start.

Most bars and eateries on Banks street are good establishments. Finn McCools, 12 Mile Limit, Mid City Yacht Club all good bars.
As someone mentioned earlier Broad St. is definitely well on its way to gentrification. Marjies, Ruby Slipper, Zony Mash, Gabrielle's is nearby.
