I had a friend who lived in China for a year. The construction there is so shoddy, that when people move there, they build them a new house. When they move out, the house is torn down and another is built in its place. They don't expect the house to last more than a year or so.

Not saying that's what happened here, but I'd take any Chinese claims of their construction practices with a grain of salt.
