he had 1 of the best PPG with auburn just the other year. he would be fine here. this is all based on IF aranda leaves. not FIRING aranda.

year before ranked #4, year after #5.

wrong and wrong again

chavis was 9 year before

aranda was 10 his first year

EPIC FAIL but nice try

ETA: steele has beaten aranda in scoring defense 3 outta 4 years.

I linked the site I used. I use that site generally for player stats, apparently their "team Defense" rankings are based on points per game, not yards per game like the NCAA site. So Steele's scoring defense at LSU was about the same ranking as ours is this years (actually slightly higher PPG than this year).

He did and is doing well this year. He did not do that well at LSU but it was only 1 season. But reading up on his current philosophy, it appears he has done an Orgeron and learned from his past mistakes (He was the guy at Clemson that gave up 70 points to WVU in a bowl game, in his defense WVU had a very good offense in 2011).

Yeah see above, but, while the disparity is not as stark, it still makes the point that at LSU his numbers looked worse than the year on either side of him. I will say that this does not always tell the whole story and I think any single year of a coach (particularly year 1) can't give you the clearest idea of a coaches overall or potential performance.

You could be right but I think he didn't like it at LSU.

I do think his time under Gus and the type of offense his defense has had to work in conjunction with would make him an interesting choice given the current LSU offensive philosophy. Perhaps his issues at LSU were related to the previous coaching staff or the particular type of athletes that LSU had on defense at the time not matching well with his style of defense. But that lack of success HERE is what gives me pause. That may be unwarranted. Anyway, I'm not sure he'd be interested unless the Gus Bus leaves the station.

Sometimes this seems like the story of my life.

For giggle I looked at scoring defense since 2000 from the site I originally linked. No judgement made on the data, here it is.

2000 - #33 - 20.1 PPG - DC Phil Elmassian
2001 - #38 - 22.3 PPG - DC Gary Gibbs
2002 - #15 - 18.3 PPG - DC Will Muschamp
2003 - #1 - 11 PPG - DC Will Muschamp
2004 - #15 - 17.1 PPG - DC Will Muschamp
2005 - #3 - 14.2 PPG - DC Bo Pelini
2006 - #4 - 12.6 PPG - DC Bo Pelini
2007 - #17 - 19.9 PPG - DC Bo Pelini
2008 - #56 - 24.2 PPG - DC Doug Mallory/BDP
2009 - #11 - 16.2 PPG - DC John Chavis
2010 - #11 - 18.2 PPG - DC John Chavis
2011 - #2 - 11.13 PPG - DC John Chavis
2012 - #12 - 17.5 PPG - DC John Chavis
2013 - #21 - 22 PPG - DC John Chavis
2014 - #4 - 17.5 PPG - DC John Chavis
2015 - #41 - 24.3 PPG - DC Kevin Steele
2016 - #5 - 15.8 PPG - DC Dave Aranda
2017 - #14 - 18.9 PPG - DC Dave Aranda
2018 - #26 - 21.8 PPG - DC Dave Aranda
2019 - #42 - 23.5 PPG - DC Dave Aranda

Happy Thanksgiving you fat bastard.
