That probably sounds right.

And tbh, it was sort of clear that before this season Jrue was handed the reputation of a leader more than he was one. As I remember the interviews about how AD, Cousins, and others were always giving him a hard time about some of the more eccentric aspects of his personality, and having to push him to actually be himself on the court. Beta AD pushing our supposed alpha Jrue.

Couple that with Griffin mentioning Reddick as his go to example of veteran leadership early in this season, not so much Jrue.

I hope Griffin sees it as well, but Jrue is not resigning here without a major overpay, he is gonna chase AD or something and we would be wise to anticipate that.

I think the only way he can help this team moving forward is as a trade chip. He's a great player when he wants to be but ultimately he just doesn't do enough to contribute to winning. And he has zero intangibles aside from being a gentleman. I'm not saying he's overpaid but he can't be a part of the core moving forward. I'd much rather just get from under the contract by the deadline. I don't need to see him play with Zion personally.
