It makes tons of sense for younger people who are in cities away from their families to have a fake Thanksgiving with their friends before/after doing Thanksgiving with their families (out of town). Or, alternatively, when they come into town for family Thanksgiving, to have it with their friends since people are all gathered back together in town again.

Now, 15 and 16 year olds who hang out at school everyday doing it sounds dumb as hell.


Exactly. This has been around since I was in College.
I am from BR and often invited LSU friends to our house when they couldn't make it home for the holiday.

That carried over into years after college in big cities with co-workers and new friends.

Baton Rouge has a bunch of groups of young engineers from the surrounding plants who do this very thing. It's pretty cool way make the most of holidays away from family when you're in your 20s.
