Lol dude we aren’t 7-4 and ranked in the bottom of the top 25 anymore. We’re number 1 in the country and will likely have a Heisman Trophy winner. If that doesn’t tell everyone in the country that we know how to manage a team and class then they can write themselves off anyway.
I doubt letting a kid go because we’re upgrading his position will do a damn thing if LSU wanted his buddy in the next class. Even so LSU recruiting is about to open up nation wide. LSU will be turning down more talent each class than most schools get into theirs. LSU was already a national brand and now even more so. Things like this are forgotten in weeks maybe months at best.

Kids talk. The 5* DE from the 2021 class we are recruiting heavily is tweeting about it. The kids are aware that LSU will accept your commitment and continue to evaluate you until something better comes along even if you’re committed for a long time. I know everyone does it but doing it around the Houston area is dangerous. This cycle, we have gotten into the Washington DC area and Other areas we do not recruit as often. However, Houston is where our bread gets buttered in Texas. If you don’t think this will have an impact on the elite players in the Houston area for 2021, you are mistaken. The #1 ranking and Heisman trophy winner will pay dividends but it’ll only last so long in the what have you done lately word of recruiting. Sky isn’t falling but I think this one is gonna sting for a little while

It's a big gamble, and don't fool yourself otherwise.
Processing 2-3 players a year (going from 3* to 4* or better) likely won't catch up to you. But Bryant has been committed forever and out there recruiting for LSU (and he's an outstanding player himself). Taking Gaye over him, for example, just seems foolish.
I'm personally not a big fan of this one. IF they did it on his senior evaluation fine. But don't think for a moment this does not have negative consequences. It will be used against us out on the trail and damage relationships.
Again, 2-3, maybe in a year is one thing, but flipping over half a dozen long time commitments is pretty daunting IMO.
