Exactly 3 men and 3 women and the women are 3 different races/ethnicities and the men are 3 different races/ethnicities.

What's telling about the 3 covers, is when you look at that last character.
Queen Amadila - the mother of Luke and Leia, and a politician that has the respect of everyone. Pretty important character as far as lesser characters go.
Lando - is responsible for Han getting frozen in carbonite, Luke getting his arm chopped off, and something minor like blowing up the death star.
Rose - nothing about the movie changes without her, well, except the resistance would have blown up Kylo Ren had she not saved Finn for love.
the black chick - no idea who that is.
