the prefer the extra cargo space of an SUV. duty bags, long guns, traffic cones, spike strips, K-9s etc. plus the elevated position gives them added visibility, faster to get in and out of, and easier to jump curbs. also more effective at utilizing a PIT maneuver.
speed in police vehicles is overrated. theres an old saying, "you may outrun the cop, but you cant outrun motorola".
