I dont think this is some magical solution - I think long term, those income floor couple with changes in education, etc. Could help some people climb out of the welfare hole.

I'll give you a simple example.

My uncle used to work for FEMA. There was a storm (Gustav, IIRC) that was predicted to hit NOLA. FEMA was extremely paranoid after Katrina, so they decided to send many people to Memphis via train. When they boarded, they were given 3 days worth of rations - plenty of food for the trip plus extra. They all went through their supplies in less than a day and were demanding more. Well, they almost had a riot on their hands when they informed these people there were no more rations available.

These people don't look beyond their instant gratification. If you give them $1k/month and reduce their other benefits, they'll demand the precious benefits in addition to their new monthly stipend.

There are already far left people complaining that is doesnt stack with everything, etc. (Yang is starting to get attacked from some of the Democrats now that he has convinced them he isnt a joke.)

My thought is that I think this will be a benefit to so many other people, that the few that dont use it for advancement or make good choices and those that complain about not getting enough are an acceptable byproduct. Again, I'm hoping the future govt / leaders dont change it to an absurd amount.

I just dont have a positive view of where the country is headed, so my concerns about the implementation of UBI are overshadowed. Again, I'd be extremely happy with yang as president even without the implementation of UBI.
