He probably had some huge long time producing accounts that management knew would leave if he were gone.
Inwouldnimagine they either finally lost the big account or felt confident they would be able to retain his accounts thru knew relationships.
Probably was a win/win for both sides

Where are the outraged morons who kept pulling his work load for no extra pay? If there aren’t any, then company deserved this “fine” for the idiocy of a position with no actual purpose.
