So, once you donate money, you are always and forever considered a booster? Somehow, that just doesn't seem right. Not saying it isn't their rule, but it just doesn't seem right. Penny gave money when Calipari ws the coach, and being the Memphis coach wasn't even in Penny's realm of thinking back then. Had it been, I'm sure he wouldn't have donated the money. Maybe Calipari was playing the REALLY long con by getting Penny to donate.

I will say that perhaps playing Wiseman last night wasn't the wisest thing they could have done. If this thing goes the wrong way for them, the NCAA can declare them ineligible for the NCAA tournament, can they not?

Yes.

quote:

Once an individual is identified as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests,” the person retains that identity forever.

quote:

Boosters, referred to by the NCAA as “representatives of the institution’s athletic interests,” include anyone who has:

Made financial contributions to the athletic department or to a university booster organization.

It’s pretty cut and dry (NCAA.org)

ETA: The definition of a booster has been around long, long before Penny even played at Memphis much less was donating money. He can’t plead ignorance in that.
