2020 class shakeout?

24 commitments before November was quite unprecedented, especially considering the quality of the recruits.

There are many ‘big fish’ still out on the lines for the taking, but of course the numbers need to shake themselves out. Clearly it’s not just take one more commit to get to 25, since O himself rattled off 3 positions he is still looking to recruit (if you believe it is for 2020 class, as most do).

So how does the timing of the resorting of this class happen? There may be 1-2 decommits before Dec Early Signing, but personally I don’t think it happens that way. In fact, for all of those worried about the optics of ‘processing’ commits then you may have forgotten that last December there were 1-2 commits in the 2019 class that did not sign in Dec and neither made it into the class. It seemed apparent that they were asked not to sign in Dec. So I expect a similar situation, where O & Staff make a decision not to take papers from a few in this Dec period. Of course, it may even need to be more than 1-2 of the current group that gets left out this time. Some may decide not to sign for their own reasons. Some may even flip during Dec.

One thing is certain, the path to 25 for the 2020 Class will become much clearer after Dec signing. Thoughts?

Anyone remember the 1-2 recruits that didn’t sign in Dec, where they are, and how they are doing? Seem to recall we had 3 players from up N LA, all the same school, and the DB in that group didn’t sign. The other?

I don’t see us getting Webb, as he has two visits to both AU and Bama remaining. I honestly think it just finishes Crawford, Dumervil, Evans, Guillory or something close to that

For the nth time, no one knows how the numbers will work but they will because they have to. Speculating as to who or how does more harm than good.

Whoever we end with, 1-2 needs to be a an OLB that can rush the passer and play down on the LOS when we occasionally play a 4-3 front.

I’m not speculating who is getting left out anywhere in the OP. I’m talking about timing of how it shakes out.

And reminding some of what happened last year.

We’re going to lose out on Donell Harris to A&M because we’re putting all eggs in one basket for Phillip Webb.

The good thing is that with the early signing date now it is not as "awkward" trying to "process" a current commitment right at/ or right before the Feb signing date like it used to be.

Since it is apparent that LSU/Coach O tries to get as many to sign in Dec as possible it makes it better on the schools and the recruits to have 2 signing periods.

All I know is they have to trim the class soon to make room for everyone we want.

For instance, I've heard there are currently 2 silent commits. So if that is true and it probably is, that puts us at 26 commits.

As a decision has to be made soon. However, Alabama week is not a good time to be thinking about such things.

Exactly my point.

As ‘fans’ we can think about it anytime we want.

This was not another post about WHO we get or don’t get. Nothing about names was implied, just how the timing of the Dec period helps shake it out.

Webb wants to be an edge and Auburn wants him at LB so until one side budges they’re out it’s a LSU-Bama race

You're right. I reread your post and apologize. I reflexed based on the multiple "who do we cut" posts.

Personally, i think anyone that doesn't sign during the early signing period will be looked at as replaceable if we think we can do better. If i had an offer i would be there with bells on for that early signing day. Lol.

Another thing about trimming the current class is they have to be very careful. Cause they could make a hard decision to trim someone only to have someone else in the class who they really wanted de-commit.

Yes, this was along the lines of the point of the OP. Thanks for getting that.

But I’m grateful for all the downvoters with poor reading comprehension.

They end up slow playing recruits
Not staying in contact with them is one way
Some may be told you can't sign early in December and then they will see writing on wall
It sucks but it goes both ways all the time

Well that's not really gonna help in a couple of cases. Both Boutte and Jarrett plan to wait until Feb so it could screw us up if one or both go to Bama. Which means we could shun some kids to make room in the early period and be left holding the bag in Feb. Part of what makes how it's gonna play out so interesting. Regardless the numbers will work out. Just a scenario where having to push some out could leave us short of 25 if some unexpected kids bail
