Your argument is someone is going to spend all this money on equipment but opt for a bluray device on every tv and disks scattered in drawers instead of configuring a media server for all their content?
Guess that would depend on the homeowner and what equipment they want in different areas. Most will just have it in the main media area or theater room since people usually buy a nice display there and go cheaper in other rooms. But with distributed audio video it wouldn’t be hard to share that source throughout the home without having blu ray players in every room.
I get it brah, Plex is your new Wink. That’s great, I’m glad you like it. It’s a much better product than that Wink crap you pushed here for years. If I had the desire to have a library of media I would add one to my system, but I don’t find it necessary.

Keeping up with stacks of Blu-ray disks is as pointless as having a huge collection of CDs in 2020 and just dumb when the quality continues to evolve to invest in a point-in-time format.
Makes zero sense when the entire world has moved online and you can update to a better quality copy without having to go buy it over and over.
I know. I have Blade Runner on everything from VHs to laserdisc and the failed hddvd. At this point those are simply a curiosity I keep around.
Do I enjoy a better experience? You're damn right. I have 4 or 5 different versions of Star Wars from a 35mm film print to the un-fixed version Lucas screwed up to 4K and other fan edits.
How would I be able to watch those on Blu-ray?
I can't think of a single argument for collecting plastic disks in 2020.
