If this works, then shouldn't the standard of care be to masculinize chromosomal men and feminize chromosomal women? Especially minors, who by law lack capacity to make this choice.

If I had dysphoria (read: a mental illness and dimished capacity to make medical decisions) and wanted to be a genetic dolphin, and there was a choice between a dolphinization treatment, which included surgically implanted fins and a blowhole, on one hand, and humanization (you know, compatible with the human genes that comprise my actual human body) therapy on the other, which would a doctor be required to administer ethically?

And assuming a doctor could ethically heed the directives of a mentally ill patient and transform him into a dolphin, does society have a duty to not only accept this creature but also change its mores, facilities, etc to accommodate the mandolphinthing?

Or is my example just too absurd because it's just one mentally ill person v. a handful of people? And how do we decide who has actual physiological dolphin or gender dysphoria versus merely wanting to join the latest fringe group, out of a need to belong or garner attention (symptoms of yet a other mental illness perhaps), or cheat in sports?

This is why I say, I'll be sympathetic and nice and gracious to all people, regardless of mental illness, but what the hell else do you people want?
