I used to camp alone when I was working in Nevada. 10 days on 4 days off so if I felt like staying close and saving money I would just go set up on some blm land. I had my phone and 7 gallons of water and slept with my gun next to me.

I have done national parks alone plenty but that doesn't feel the same since you are in occupied campgrounds.

Yep, alone much like you described on lots of BLM and National Forest land. Found it generally best to avoid the Park Service folks when possible - the others (State, County, NF, and BLM) are mostly real nice people.

Was on a lark and between jobs I took off with a couple whitewater boats, hiking, and climbing gear and only a starting point. Eventually came back home 5 and 1/2 months later doing what you described. Hopping from trips with one friend to another, with one to two week solo trips in between. Got in a lot from mid New Mexico to the Canadian boarder on that one excursion. Those in between solo were as great as being around others. Have done probably another half dozen 1-to-2 week solo excursions as well, some paddling and others backpacking. The complete freedom to roam is indescribable.

BTW: A southern drawl is good out west.
