Does the HOA actually have any authority?
If you say frick them, can they evict you out of the house? Can the cops evict you out of the house?
I only see the stories of people getting letters and emails from their HOA.

Like I said, this is why folks should do their homework. It should be no surprise 1 year after you moved in that you have a shitty HOA. You should know or find these things out before you move into a neighborhood, obviously.

Immense amount. They can put liens on your home until foreclosure.
