Honest question, what was the deciding factor, when the ACC expanded in selecting a school like Pitt over Cincinnati? Cincinnati has a better football AND basketball program. Bigger school with 45k students. Cincinnati/Dayton are is a talent rich area for high school football. Looking at it now, if the ACC could do it over, would they take Cincinnati over Pitt?

Pitt is a better football program and who had already been in a P5 program prior to the move/ but it’s not all about the program
The city of Pittsburgh/metro is also bigger
And the Pittsburgh Media Market footprint is also more valuable than Cincinnati’s market

Good question. I'm not sure I remember. Some guesses:
1) Pitt was a member of the Big East for over 20 years, Cincy was only in the Big East for 8 years so Pitt was more established as a Power 6 team. Cincy was a C-USA team before that.
2)Pitt is the #2 team in PA, and had a historic rivalry with Penn State, while Cincy, even if they often were #2 in OH, has no such rivalry with Ohio State ( except for 3 years in basketball in the 1960s,) so I think the ACC felt Pitt was a bigger poke in the eye to the Big Ten as far as having a team in Big Ten country.
These are just my guesses, I don't know for sure.
