It depends on who is there to champion your cause. If the good work you did was pre-acquisition it might get lost in the shuffle with all the chaos that comes with M&A.
From a lay-off perspective, if the target's IT department is better than the acquirer's IT department, I'd expect layoffs to mostly impact redundancies on the acquirer's side.
