Caldwell Sugars Co-op owned a large section on the northeast side off Hwy 308. It closed in 2002, not sure who owns it now.
All of the land around Thibodaux is or was owned by a few large landowners, originally sugar plantations. There is only one sugar mill left in the area, Lafourche Sugars on Leighton Plantation, northwest of town.
