The mistake was that they let the clock run all the way until Drew was snapping the ball on the sneak to blow the whistle, and never moved the clock back up to when the last play ended. As someone said, the 10 second run off is to simulate the time it takes to spot the ball, line up and be ready to snap it again. That time was already taken once by letting the clock go from 41 to 26 before stopping for review, and then they took it a second time with the run off, costing the Saints at least 2 more plays.

It's also very common and there is no excuse at all for any official that didn't just come from little league to get it that wrong AND ignore people on the field letting them know they got it wrong.
