I've had over 20 of them over the years and they are not nice to deal with. The biggest one I passed on my own was 1/4 inch round and 1/2 inch long and that bastard hurt me for a long time before passing.

I finally had a lab analyze them to see what was causing my stones and it was uric acid, the same thing that causes gout in some people. I got prescribed a drug to take daily called Allopurinol and that has been a blessing. I've not had any more problems with kidney stones since getting on that medication.

I did have the surgical procedure done once and you're out when they do it but peeing for the next 3-4 days is pretty painful as it feels like you're pissing razor blades.

I just had 1 that was almost 11mm.

Had an ER visit when it dropped out of my kidney into my ureter.

Did a Lithotripsy and it did nothing to my stone. I didn't think the pain from the procedure was too bad.

Had to go in (yes through my pee hole) and break that dude up with a laser beam! They installed a stent from the Kidney to the Bladder to make sure the swelling doesn't close up the ureter. After 1 week I had another xray and they broke it into about 8 or 9 pieces and I passed those within 2 days of having the stent removed.

I was asleep for the initial procedure but not asleep when they had to remove the stent. That wasn't the most pleasant feeling.
