The 2 party system isn't working because both sides refuse to do shite to fix the problems and then continuously use those problems to campaign on and get reelected by stupid arse voters. So then you have the wishy washy independents that can't make up their minds whats good and bad and every 8 years switch from Republican to Democrat to Republican because their previous choices didn't fix the problems they were elected to fix so they try the other side.
So then Trump comes along and is a threat to this is why everyone hates him. It's been years since a President tried to fix problems. Now let's see what the wishy washy independents do in 2020 when they finally got the guy that would attempt to fix things. Will they continue to be stupid arse voters or vote for fixing things?

He isn't fixing the problem.
The "rule of law" still isn't being enforced.
We're still involved in multiple operations in the Middle East that we have no business in (Yemen!).
Medical costs are continuing to skyrocket. This alone will kill the U.S. economy.
The national debt is still ballooning.
Edit - I don't pretend to know the answer, but neither party is working for "We The People"
