Anybody have any advice to give on visiting North Captiva. Looks like a very laid back, relaxing vibe from what I've gathered.
What's the best way to get groceries?
Are the few restaurants on island any good?
Is there plenty of public beach space available if I rent a house not located on the beach?

That is a laid back area....have not been there to stay.
I would not expect much movement of anything there.
see if this helps:

Captiva is one of the coolest places, you will love it. There were three or for bars and restaurants on the island but you are attached to Sanibel and very close, 10 minutes or so. There were more options there. Get groceries in Fort Myers before you drive into Sanibel.

You probably already know this but N Captiva is accessed by boat only, South Captiva is connected to Sanibel. N Captiva is absolutely wonderful, no cars (every place has a golf cart) to get around. Couple of restaurants, nothing amazing but they're pretty good. The grocery store on the island is extremely small, so bring what you need. You can catch the boat over from Pine Island that will help you haul grocery bags, ice chests, luggage, etc. There's also a place where you can rent boats and such but you'll need a boating license to rent any power boats. Beach space is available all over and quiet, the spots near the end of the small little private runway are normally popular (bay side or gulf side) and there's plenty of natural ocean life to swim, especially dolphins on the bay side.
