I’ve done something similar few years ago...

It’s little more than an hour drive but if you’re committed to doing a “day excursion”, consider driving north up to Anacortes if interested in whale watching. When I booked it few years back , the company had advertised they had 100% success in killer whale sightings within the past year. The family of whales came fairly close near the boat, although the boat legally couldn’t approach them. We also ventured further north to see humpback whale breachings. Boat captains seem to know each other, and they radio into one another where the whale sightings are taking place.

I thought it was very worthwhile experience. I’d definitely go back and I’d take my kids one day.

Mt Ranier is cool too but is more time consuming to pull off in a day.

Thanks for the responses. We are staying in the city during the next week for business, so I'm more interested in doing the out bound excursions on Saturday.

If I'm looking to stay in the area where we visit, are there decent hotels nearby in Anacortes and Mount Rainier?
