Is a 20 year old in possession of a pistol not illegal? I know you can't buy a pistol under 21.

Last year some guys in MS walked into a Wal-Mart with a M-4 assault rifle, a handgun and a machete. The cops couldn't do anything since no laws were being broken. The store asked them to leave which they did.
