Very good read. Those women are something special to take up a vocation such as the poor claire's. I have to imagine they have a 1st class ticket straight to heaven.

I know y'all like to hate on women's bball, which is fine. But some of our biggest stars go overseas and make north of $1 million.
As for the story, it was a good read. I just think 25 years without contact with your family is a bit over the top.

A family friend just took the first steps toward becoming a nun, although her group is not as extreme as this one. Very pretty, smart, had a lot of career options as well as romantic ones. She felt led to it. It took a couple of years for her to get accepted. They dont want anyone doing it on a whim.
Though not a Catholic, I've had the opportunity to interact with some monks and have been very impressed with them. They seem to have a level of contentment that most people dont have.

These kind of incredibly religious people are so interesting to me. I am atheist, but this isn’t to bash religion. I have no problem with anyone choosing to be religious so long as they do not try to force it onto others who do not want it.
But, for someone to 100% commit their entire existence to their religion, in the fashion that a nun does, is interesting to me in the following sense:
You know you get this current life. That’s all you know with 100% certainty. You can be 99% sure with your belief about what happens when we die - but if you have the same 100% certainty about the afterlife as you do about the fact that you get your one life you have right now, you’re either dangerously arrogant or incredibly dumb.
So for people like nuns to live the life you have, completely devoted to and constantly preparing for a life you may or may not ever get, is a fascinating phenomenon to me. Some people would call it dumb, some would call it amazing that one would have such conviction. I don’t know what the true answer is, it’s a truly unique paradox.
