Barnes getting traded in mid game wasn’t cool but that is what happens in a sport where there are always games going on, like the NBA and MLB. Not the NFL because teams only play one game a week, typically on Sunday.
As far as why Barnes wasn’t pulled from the lineup if he was potentially getting traded, Marc Gasol got pulled from the lineup last season for an impending deal with Charlotte. The deal collapsed because Charlotte then started lowballing Memphis thinking the trade was close, resulting in Gasol going to Toronto instead.

I'm pretty sure a story came out that Barnes knew that he was possibly being traded and wanted to play anyway.
