Yes, ship island is still a great place. As mentioned though, it's not a nice as usual this summer due to the influx from the spillway and rain. It's still a great spot to be, just won't be as clear as usual.

Don't bother. Camille cut was filled in early this year and is no more.

And bugs. Went to ship about 2 weeks ago, there was a swarm of bugs that were all over the area for a few days. Didn’t bite but just a nuisance. Seemed to calm down toward the end of our stay.

The sand on ship was insanely hot. It was black sand. Anything less than a sprint from your chair to the water and the sand was potential for second degree burn on your feet. Water wasn’t as clear as years past but still pretty clean up to 4’.

I am well aware the cut has been filled in, I've seen it with my own eyes dozens of times. It's pretty cool sight to see if you walk down there is look at what they have done with all the sand.
