Exactly. There is a specific water level (approx. 4 ft. from the top of the outfall t-walls) that triggers the closure of the bypass gates at the new stations on the outfall canals. At this point, for reference, you cannot drive Lakeshore Dr. Water would be over your knees. Didn't happen for Barry.

Opening of the spillway doesn't appreciably raise the lake level. Gotta remember, the rest of the earth's seas are open to us through the Rigolets.

Understood, but do you think the 17th Canal's level could have been high enough to restrict the flow entering the canal from the city last week., and if the gates were closed and the pumps at the mouth of the outfall canals were on it would have limited the over topping of the canals in the city?
