I went to high school in Avoyelles Parish in the late 80s. Between that and college, I met basically every character in that movie. There was a guy who went to something like eight straight proms. He was steady dating high school girls way into his 20s.
The tradition was for seniors to ring freshmen -- after they got their senior rings, they would turn them around so the stone was in their palm and slap us upside the head. My freshman year, they decided to start giving the the juniors their senior rings at the end of the school year. So we got to go through the whole thing twice.

This happened in my high school circa 2009-2010
