Well, for sure the flag should never, ever be placed on the ground intentionally, which is what clearly happened here.
The other player realized they were about to (mindlessly or not) trample on the flag and saved the two of them from further embarrassment and the flag from further disrespect, so double kudos to her.

They definitely showed their ignorance and lack of basic patriotic decorum, which has no place on a team supposedly representing the US.
Next time, we should at least bring on that GTFO hockey coach at least as a consultant.
