Fine, I will answer your weird hypothetical. I would not want to act obnoxiously conservative in a super liberal area nor obnoxiously liberal in a super conservative area.
Contrary to your belief, there are definitely parts of this country that are "no fly zones" for liberals/gays/etc. They just tend to more be isolated so people aren't crossing paths in the same way as you would in a big city.
Now that being said, restaurant workers lean left especially in bigger cities so I'd think that would be part of the equation. But anyone being attacked or spit on or whatever is going to be pretty rare, regardless, so we're really getting into the weeds
