Wimbledon 2019 -- The Unofficial Thread
some quotes from tsitsipas after today's match.... kinda sucks to see him out so soon...

on nextgen guys lacking experience:

quote:
"I don't think that's an excuse," Tsitsipas said.

"We've seen players my age, many years ago, I would like to name Rafa, Roger, seemed very mature and professional what they were doing.

"They had consistency from a young age. They always did well tournament by tournament without major drops or inconsistency.

"Something that we as the NextGen players lack, including myself as well, is this inconsistency week by week.

"It's a week-by-week problem basically, that we cannot adjust to that.

on trying to stay consistent:
quote:
"My goal this year was to stay as consistent as possible. I had a great year last year. There were a lot of ups and downs during the year.

"I really wanted to focus and be aware of every single match that I'm going to play this year.

"It hasn't been going up to the plan. I'll be doing what I'm doing, and let's see what happens."

I love these quotes.

Guy on Reddit posted a few months back that Shitsy was the luckiest player on tour. Using a combo of service points won and return points won, he claims that players should have a certain win percentage, and Tsitsipas was way out of line (lucky) in regard to his raw numbers.

I haven’t read the whole post or all of the comments, but it did seem like Shitsy was pulling out too many close wins for an extended stretch. Some of the commenters replied that he may be clutch as opposed to lucky, but the poster claims that historically the idea of being clutch is mostly a myth, which I tend to agree with.
