Well, it means something to NFL scouts. Every year when an 18 gets drafted, I hear one or more scouts or coaches talk about the fact that the kid "was LSU's #18 last season". They know what it means, and it is something they take into account when doing evaluations.

It really matters to no one except the fraternity of players that were former #18s.
