This is the part i was missing and your example helps greatly! Not that many people would keep going southbound to vets so the traffic shouldnt be that bad.

Don't feel stupid... I've had to draw this out and think about it for it to make sense.

My example was traveling southbound Loyola, but really, where this is going to do the most good is northbound Loyola. My understanding is coming from the airport, headed to Laplace/BR, there won't be a direct connector. So, the diverging diamond will help with that traffic to get on the 10 west on-ramp.
