besides, several programs are proving that you don't have to return gigantic production to make the cws.

No you don't but you do have to have solid pitching and LSU relied heavily on freshman this year. It was evident we didn't have an ace on the staff so to speak. Walker and Hess were not what they were projected to be. I think the pitching staff held there own in a few games(in the postseason) that the hitting did not. No excuse for the lack of production at the plate. The only changes that need to be made are addressing the staff as far as the offense is concerned. That has to be figured out and if PM does not change anything going into next year and the results are the same I think PM needs to be talked into retiring. 3 years in a row would be completely inexcusable

My internal projections for Hess as the #1 for 2019 went very accurately. It is also very difficult to project how a guy does his first season back from TJ, Walker fits that profile and will likely be consistently better next season. The pitching staff returning for next season should be much better and deeper than what has returned the past few seasons. I mean, the last time in Omaha LSU again had a very thin pitching staff and losing Walker at the end did them in. I don't think this team had very good player leadership, either. My biggest issue with this team was the same repetitive poor decisions in the field (even many WTF moments on terrible throws to 1B), catching prior to Garza settling in, and the hole of suck throwing down to 2B. Saw very little plate protection to extend AB's. I don't attempt to understand the massive number of pitching injuries other than the program needs to change/improve to protect arms. With no guys being able to supplant Hughes and Broussard, and needing to recall Reid, no one should be surprised with how this season went. If PM makes no staff changes things will get interesting in 2020.
