I agree. We’ve seen dark and gritty and dreary. The MCU method is superior, and the box office numbers show this.
I agree it might be weird to shove the X-men into the Avengers universe at this stage. I wouldn’t mind keeping the X-men world separate from the avengers world. I just want good X-men movies.

Easy solution. Mutations occur to those that were snapped. That or the alien invasion caused it.
