no one is saying they can't use the word, it's just that they are moving to a more culturally appropriate term

considering our history, no one should have an issue with this.

Why is the term “owner” culturally inappropriate decades after the civil rights movement?

Like I said early, if calling a person who owns an NBA franchise an owner is problematic for whatever reason, that reason is applicable in all situations where you’d call someone an owner if people are in anyway associated with the thing that is owned.
