I’m to the left and will absolutely have a conversation with you. I will say I disagree that emotions have no place. Humans are inherently emotional beings. That’s not to say that emotions can trump facts by themself but to say emotions have no role is not something I can agree with.

Letting emotion guide decision making is a sign of weak mentality.

I think that what turns me away from the Left the most, is that many policies of the left are based on what seems like the “nice” thing to do.
Political Correctness is just politeness, but it’s a 1A Problem
Welfare programs are sold as “compassionate” but they often times enable, if not subsidize bad decisions.
I’m all about charity, kindness, respect and compassion- but modern day left leaning politics seems awfully codependent to me. I just don’t think it’s healthy for a person or a society to live that way.
Emotions definitely have a role, but enacting laws, policies and programs that seek to prevent people from feeling their own negative emotions, is removing people’s humanity from them. Our emotions tell us what is right and wrong for each of us as individuals. My problem with most if not all thinking on the “left” is that it assumes what feels right for one person, or one small group, by necessity is right for everyone. That will NEVER ever be the case.
That said. I think you sound like a reasonable fellow.
But I don’t in general understand moderate. To me, it’s just too often that moderates are really just scared to have a position on anything.
I either have an opinion on something, but if don’t know enough about an issue to form one, I learn about it and eventually will form one.
I think I’m a reasonable person, but would not characterize myself as moderate.
