I do think OSU knowing about it and still signing him only because they knew the records were sealed (no publicity) says a lot, about OSU and us as a society.
Not exactly how that works. The state of Oregon knew about it as per the deal, but OSU personnel were not privy to any of these details. Sports Illustrated did a long piece on this; very informative read.

Indeed, citing privacy restrictions, OSU officials have yet to confirm what the school knew about Heimlich's crime, and when.

Your link doesn't say they weren't privy. They ducked and dodged. My link below shows they should have known if their own policies are followed. Hopefully you're done spewing false info. But you won't, I'm sure tripling down on stupid will happen.

Oregon State does learn when a student is a registered sex offender, according to university spokesman Steve Clark. Oregon State Police send the university a list of registered sex offenders in Benton County "on a regular ongoing basis," Clark said. The university then cross-checks those names with its student database to verify sex offenders who have enrolled.

Under university practice, he said, the athletics department is supposed to be notified when a student-athlete is a registered sex offender. Citing student privacy rules, Clark would not say whether that happened.
