Nah, it's very quick and easy to do in plunder. Even faster than doing it in MP, unless something changed with the new update.

1. Put the gun you wish to level in a loadout.

2. Go into a game of plunder, with squad fill off.

3. Land on a supply run and vehicle/helo

4. Do as many supply run contracts as you can throughout the game of plunder. Don't even have to get out the car, just make sure you have the gun you want to level up out when you get in the car.

If you have a double weapon XP token, it's great to use for this. Each contract would get you 500 XP for the gun (250 with no token). I've completely leveled up 2 guns in 2 hours, without firing a shot, this way.
