I think I see where the disconnect is. Its basically a shift in American culture. The courtship of a much younger woman back then probably wasn't a big deal because the social implication was that you were going to marry her anyway. The "do the honorable thing" mindset.
But as more incidents involving spousal abuse occurred, laws changed. And the meta rules of dating have significantly changed both in social pressures and what people value.
Basically what Roy and other men did back then would be frowned upon in many instances, even in conservative circles by modern standards.
I'm not holding it against the guy and I belief there are other Republican candidates with less baggage.

I think you hit the nail on the head - we are dealing with a social disconnect over a cultural shift. Pretty astute observation & a better explanation than I have been able to present so
and I don't disagree; his behavior would not be well received today (I'd have a real problem with a 26 year old that wanted to date my 16 year old daughter)
I will say 2 things
1. holding him to task for that is akin to demonizing the Founding Fathers for having owned slaves OR demonizing Abe Lincoln for being such a racist (this never happens, but Abe was FAR more racist than anyone today - he actually believed that whites are inherently superior to blacks and that blacks should not be afforded the same station as whites ever)
2. the people in this thread that are saying that since Moore is suing for defamation that his accusers have not gone away are pathetic liars or really stupid (maybe even functional retards?) Roy knows he was railroaded & is putting his money where his mouth is...
these same people are also attacking me for supporting Moore. I am not a supporter of the judge; which I have stated numerous times ITT.
recognizing that the man was sandbagged by the dishonest American media =/= support for his candidacy
I would rather have him than Jones; but, as I have already said, I will vote for whomever has the best chance to beat him in the Republican primary
having Moore as a candidate would hurt us (Republicans) in the upcoming election by giving Democrats a bogeyman; they'd use him like we use Pelosi or AOC, to fire up the base
he would certainly win the Senate seat here in AL; but might actually cost Trump the election
