I actually believe the bridge would generate local business, alleviate some of the stresses on local business, encourage more commerce between south Louisiana cities and towns and bring a physical embodiment of the people’s will for the state to improve through one landmark.
Maybe I’m too egalitarian but this doesn’t pass the smell test.
ETA: Fap Sam, I said the $210 because I knew about what the Stadium and Exposition District was paying. I didn’t know the state was on the hook for the remaining $90 million. If you add the $90 that the “state” is claimed to pay then you get $300 milllion.

LSED (the government entity which oversees the property) =/= "the state"
