In mild defense of the fees: the blame is TOPS.
Because the state is on the hook for tuition increases, they block them.
For fricks sake, wasn’t it posted just today about how LSU’s cost of attendance has it as one of the best value colleges in the US?
What difference does it really make if the charge is called tuition or an “academic excellence fee?”

Because academically talented students who receive scholarships/TOPS have to backdoor money to LSU out of their own pockets as in other universities a full scholarship is a full scholarship.
And Lousiana's high ups wonder why all the smart kids go out of state for college.

Fees are always paid by the customer (student) while tuition is often paid by the state through TOPS. The state blocks in-state tuition increases because that would actually cost the state government more money.
