It may seem like a small change in perspective but it's actually a huge deal. Most corporate lawyers save themselves work, time and reputational risk by being conservative and saying no to any internal proposals that even slightly impact the status quo.
What you really need, and Woodward seems to get this, is a lawyer that is willing to take risks and do the work/research to define what's allowable. It takes more effort and a lawyer fully committed to the success of the larger organization. It is not a lawyer/administrator who's primary concern is CYA.

I do not believe that is a small change in perspective. I only base my opinion on several years of history reviewing the actions of our compliance department. It needs a serious overhaul, and it looks like the job is in progress.
