Was wandering around when we first got there and was a little overwhelmed. So much cool stuff I didn’t even know existed, far superior to the chintzy Chinese crap you see at flea markets.
Then I saw all these ships. Around 3’ long and 2’ high. Intricately detailed, the rigging, decks, sails and all the filigree. All done by hand. I found the craftsman and asked the price, expecting something outrageous for the art I saw on display. Was going to nod and walk, then he told me the price. I didn’t even haggle, told him sold right there. Ended up going back and getting a steal on several other pieces.
And I could tell his friend with him, probably an apprentice of sorts, had made some of the simpler stuff. But I could see the teaching the older man was giving him. Was impressed.
I told him some pieces I wanted, some ideas,
And he told me to come back in October. I’m honestly sort of giddy at seeing what he works up.
