Tigerbait, do you have much faith that those are goals the coaches have, too? Especially the ones concerning routine construction?

Get healthy? Hell yes, I think everyone was at a loss for words with the team this year. Jay and DD have been in this sport for decades and have never had a team this banged up.

Routine construction? That has been my personal pet peeve over the years. I think there have been moments where we make good adjustments but there is still too many issues with our overall construction. The difficult leaps on beam need to go. Outside of Campbell, no one should be doing the switch leap to switch half. I don’t know why LSU doesn’t connect skills into beat jumps anymore, personally it’s a connection many can do and not get hit for leap position. The leaps on floor for a few routines are questionable.

Alyona needs a new routine. At the minimum a New dismount. The double layout is not consistent and begs for deductions. I don’t know what jay can do but they need to experiment this offseason. I personally don’t like her having the Maloney in there mainly because she usually has a small leg separation that she gets hit for. I really think a more watered down routine with a better dismount would be a consistent 9.9 scorer. I personally wanted a Lexie Priessman type routine construction. Difficult yet short and simple. Let her focus on polishing hand stands and toe point. When it comes down to post season, they really focus on overall execution. I am not saying abandon difficulty but you need to be smart about it.

When it gets down to it, coaches should be putting routines out there that allows them to do what they do well but also minimize deductions. Ross and Nichols aren’t getting 100s of 10s doing elite level routines. Trinity Thomas has difficulty but smart difficulty. They are not putting skills out there that are built in deductions. At LSU that is our issue right now.

DD has been made aware of some things about choreography this year. I will be interested in what she says to ACK and how they deal with it. Im not sure how the coaches can not see the issue. The routines have gone down in quality.
